Cooling Tower Plants

COOLING TOWER PLANTS INSTALLATION

COOLING TOWER PLANTS INSTALLATION A cooling tower is a heat rejection device that rejects waste heat to the atmosphere through the cooling of a water stream to a lower temperature. Cooling towers may either use the evaporation of water to remove process heat and cool the working fluid to near the wet-bulb air temperature or, in the case of closed-circuit dry cooling towers, rely solely on air to cool the working fluid to near the dry-bulb air temperature.
Common applications include cooling the circulating water used in oil refineries, petrochemical and other chemical plants, thermal power stations, nuclear power stations and HVAC systems for cooling buildings. The classification is based on the type of air induction into the tower: the main types of cooling towers are natural draft and induced draft cooling towers.
Industrial cooling towers can be used to remove heat from various sources such as machinery or heated process material. The primary use of large, industrial cooling towers is to remove the heat absorbed in the circulating cooling water systems used in power plants, petroleum refineries, petrochemical plants, natural gas processing plants, food processing plants, semi-conductor plants, and for other industrial facilities such as in condensers of distillation columns, for cooling liquid in crystallization, etc.

MAINTENANCE OF COOLING TOWER

Descaling of cooling tower in any industry is so difficult and time consuming. So, the easy way is to maintain the cooling tower with the help of the chemicals.

First problem in the cooling tower is algae and protozoa. So, for this problem use the biocide which can prevent algae and protozoa. Second problem is scale formation so use antiscalent for this problem. Third is descaling which is always difficult so use good quality descalent.

FOLLOWING ARE THE STEPS FOR DESCALING

ARRANGEMENTS FOR DESCALING OPERATION:

Circulation of the descaling solution is recommended. Connect the tank containing the  descaling solution to the equipment to be descaled by means of pipes or rubber hoses. The solution should preferably enter at the lowest point of the equipment and leave from the highest point. This will prevent formation of gas pockets and subsequent uneven descaling. Circulation may be affected through a mechanized pump or a hand pump. If, however, where circulation is difficult, the equipment to be descaled should be filled with 3% to 10% solution and allowed to soak for 8 hours.

CHECKING FOR COMPLETION OF DESCALING:

A sample of the descaling solution may be withdrawn periodically and tested for acidity either by titration or by using a pH paper. When descaling is complete the concentration of acid will remain constant. If, however, the solution shows no acidity more BioKemikel should be added to the descaling solution and the process of descaling continued till the constancy of concentration of acid is achieved.

FLUSHING & NEUTRALISING:

After completion of descaling drain the equipment and flush thoroughly with water till water becomes neutral.
